Valley City is an unincorporated community in Liverpool Township, Medina County, known far and wide as the "Frog Jump Capital of Ohio." Every July, the town comes alive for the annual Frog Jump Festival, a beloved tradition since 1962 that brings neighbors together for food, fun, frog jumping contests, a parade, a classic car show, and live music at Mill Stream Park. Large lots, horse properties, and custom homes make this a unique community. The Buckeye Local School District serves the area well, with Buckeye Primary, Buckeye Intermediate, Buckeye Junior High, and Buckeye High School, plus smaller class sizes that many households appreciate. And residents love the scenic beauty of this rural retreat.
One of the things that surprises people most is the location. Despite the rural feel, Valley City is about 10 minutes from I-71, putting downtown Cleveland roughly 30 minutes away, Akron about 25, and SouthPark Mall in Strongsville about 15. You get the peace of country living without giving up easy access to jobs and shopping.
Here is something I tell everyone who asks about Valley City: if you want space, privacy, and a view that changes your mood every time you pull into your driveway, this is your place. I work with a lot of buyers who come from more built-up suburbs and are amazed at what they can get here for their money. The lots are larger, the neighbors are farther apart, and the pace of life is slower in the best possible way. It is unpretentious and welcoming, the kind of place where neighbors wave, kids play outside, and you can actually hear the birds in the morning.

Barn Run
Barn Run is one of those Valley City communities that makes a strong first impression before you even reach the homes. You pull up to the drive-through gatehouse with its rustic barn-style roof, and right away you can tell this is a neighborhood that is cared for and intentional. Beyond the gate, the streets are quiet and tree-lined, with concrete curbing, manicured lawns, and tidy driveways. It has that true residential neighborhood feel, the kind of place where you see neighbors out walking in the evening and kids playing out front. I love bringing buyers here, because it shows a side of Valley City that is as comfortable and well-kept as it is peaceful. If you want privacy and calm with a real sense of community, Barn Run is absolutely worth a look.

Valley City may be small, but it has a surprising amount of heart and character. These are the places and traditions that make this community so special to me and so many others.
Coffee in The Valley
Tucked into a renovated bank building at 6663 Center Road, this is the kind of coffee shop that makes a small town feel like home. Owners Stephanie and Sean Miller opened it in 2019 after years of dreaming about it, and you can feel the love in every detail. They serve all the classics, plus bubble tea, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. There is even a drive-thru. But do yourself a favor and sit inside for a few minutes to soak up the cozy atmosphere.
Frog Jump Festival
Every July, Valley City earns its "Frog Jump Capital of Ohio" title with the annual Frog Jump Festival at Mill Stream Park. Since 1962 the town has gathered for frog jumping contests, a parade, a classic car show, food vendors, games, and live music. It is the quintessential small-town event, and I look forward to it every year. There is nothing quite like watching kids and adults alike cheer on their frogs with pure joy.
Mill Stream Park
The heart of outdoor life in Valley City. The park sits right on the Rocky River with walking trails along the water, a modern playground, pickleball and basketball courts, and a concession stand that stays busy all summer. It is also where the Frog Jump Festival takes place each summer, and it got a six-foot-tall frog sculpture in 2026 that has become a favorite photo spot. For a quieter escape, Zachary A. Weber Riverside Park opened nearby in 2025 with swinging benches and picnic shelters overlooking the river, and Liverpool Meadows Nature Preserve offers peaceful woodland hiking.
Valley City Street Fair
The 91st annual Street Fair just wrapped up, and it was as wonderful as ever. Live music, inflatables, raffles, and neighbors filling downtown with good energy. It is a tradition that has been bringing the community together for nearly a century, and that longevity says everything about how much people here care about their community.
Valley City Farmers Market
Every Saturday from 9 AM to noon at the Valley City Depot (6615 Center Road) through October. Fresh local produce, baked goods, and handmade items from the summer harvest. It runs through October, so there are plenty of Saturdays to stop by and stock up on the best of what the season has to offer.
Buckeye Woods Golf Course
A beautiful public course that draws golfers from all over the area. Winding through the rolling hills of Medina County, it offers a challenging but enjoyable round in a stunning setting. Golfers also love Coppertop Golf Club right on Center Road and nearby Shale Creek Golf Club. Even if golf is not your game, the landscape around the course is worth a drive.
Summer Nights on Central
Every second Thursday from June through September, Central Avenue turns into a street festival with live music, food trucks, and folks sprawled out on blankets. It is exactly the kind of community gathering that reminds you why small-town life is special: neighbors catching up, kids dancing, everyone enjoying a summer evening together.
Local Favorites to Eat
Valley City has some real gems when it comes to food. Samosky's Homestyle Pizzeria is the kind of pizza place where everybody knows your name, Gandalf's Pub & Restaurant serves cozy comfort food, and Knott's Family Diner on Center Road is the definition of a small-town breakfast spot, with friendly service and hearty portions.

What's happening the week of August 28
Friday is here and the end of August has that perfect in-between feeling, when summer is gently winding down but there is still so much to enjoy. If you have not made it to the Valley City Farmers Market yet this season, this is the weekend to go. It sets up every Saturday from 9 AM to noon at the Valley City Depot on Center Road, and the late-summer tables are loaded with the best of the local harvest. Grab fresh produce, some baked goods, and a handmade treasure or two, then take a slow lap around town. It is the kind of unhurried, pleasant errand that reminds you why small-town Saturdays are the best kind.
And looking just a little ahead, the Valley City Community Group is hosting a free Movie in the Park at Mill Stream Park on Friday, September 4, with family favorites on the big screen. Bring a blanket and a lawn chair and ease into Labor Day weekend under the stars. It is a lovely, family-friendly way to close out the summer together, and it does not cost a thing. Mark your calendar now so it does not sneak up on you.
Samosky's Homestyle Pizzeria
When it comes to a bite to eat in Valley City, Samosky's Homestyle Pizzeria at 6738 Center Road is a true hometown favorite, and it is a place I love to send people. It is a family-run, old-school pizzeria, the kind where the menu goes well beyond pizza and the folks behind the counter treat you like family. Their pies have a crust people rave about, and regulars love the Philly Cheese Steak pizza along with specialty options like the Smoked Caprese and the Old World Deluxe. If you are a pepperoni purist, it is all done right here too.
What I honestly think makes Samosky's special is that it is so much more than pizza. The homestyle menu is a genuine standout, with their much-praised onion rings, pulled pork egg rolls, calamari, a fresh salad bar, and even a bakery and ice cream counter with kolachky to finish things off. And here is the part that means the world to so many families: they offer a gluten-free cauliflower crust plus vegan cheese, sausage, and pepperoni, so folks with dietary needs can still enjoy a night out without a second thought. It is the comfortable, generous, community-hearted kind of place that shows up all over a great small town. Stop by for a hearty dinner and save room for dessert.

It is Friday, and I do not mind telling you, this feels like the perfect Labor Day weekend to be in Valley City. Tonight, the Valley City Community Group hosts its free Movie in the Park at Mill Stream Park on Maple Street, and this year's film is the family-friendly Toy Story 5. Bring a blanket, a couple of lawn chairs, and the kids' favorite movie snacks. It costs nothing, and the whole town tends to sprawl happily across the grass. There is no warmer way to ease into a long weekend.
Then Saturday morning, do not miss the Valley City Farmers Market. It sets up every Saturday from 9 AM to noon at the Valley City Depot on Center Road, and this weekend it is in its full late-summer glory, with tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, baked goods, and handmade finds lining the stalls. Stock up now for the holiday cookout, or just make a lazy morning loop of it. The market runs through October, so there are plenty of Saturdays ahead, but this is the weekend the season really starts to feel like it is turning, and I never want you to miss that.
The Wooden Nickel Bar & Grill
When it comes to a bite this weekend, I am sending you straight to The Wooden Nickel Bar & Grill at 965 Marks Road. The setting alone is worth the drive: the restaurant lives in a rustic, century-old barn, all warm wood and cozy corners, and you can feel the town's country character the second you walk in. It is an unpretentious, friendly place, the kind I love to point people to when they want a good meal without any fuss.
What to try? The word around town is the wings, and I get why. They do a Jamaican jerk wing that regulars genuinely get excited about, and the menu goes well beyond that, with a hearty Western-style burger, a fun Pineapple Jerk Wagyu burger if you are feeling adventurous, and pulled pork sandwiches that are pure comfort. The beer list is well-stocked, the service is warm, and the old-barn atmosphere makes even a casual dinner feel like a little event. Find a seat, order a basket of wings, and settle in. That is a Valley City weekend, right there.

This Week in Valley City
It is Friday, September 11, and this is one of those weeks when you can feel the whole Valley shifting from summer into fall. If you have not made it out yet, this is a wonderful weekend to catch the Valley City Farmers Market. It sets up every Saturday from 9 AM to noon at the Valley City Depot on Center Road and runs through October, and right now the stalls are full of the tail end of summer vegetables, early apples, baked goods, and handmade finds. It is the kind of unhurried, neighbor-friendly morning loop through town that makes small-community living feel like the best kind of living.
And if you are ready to welcome the season, Mapleside Farms is just a short drive away, and this weekend marks the kickoff of its Pumpkin Village for 2026. The opening weekend theme is a Jurassic-themed celebration, with the new "Valley of the Dinosaurs" walk-through running through November 1. The farm is open from 11 AM to 9 PM on Saturday and 11 AM to 6 PM on Sunday, which makes for a perfect day out with the family. Between the market, the farm, and the long September evenings along the river, there is no better time of year to be out in the Valley.
Valley City Chill and Grille
When it comes to a bite in the heart of town, Valley City Chill and Grille at 6677 Center Road is a place I love to send people. It is a family-owned restaurant and ice cream shop that does both halves of the job beautifully. The menu is fresh and made to order, from handcrafted burgers built on 100% Ohio-sourced beef to wraps, soups, salads, and a fish fry that regulars count on. Stop in on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday for the homemade pierogi dinner, and you will understand right away why folks come back week after week.
What I love most is that it never feels like an errand. The folks at the counter greet you like they are happy to see you, everything is made fresh, and it works just as well for a quick lunch as for a long family dinner. And do not even try skipping the ice cream. Their super-premium scoops, sundaes, and banana splits are a treat, and they bake their own ice cream cakes for birthdays and every small celebration in between. Park the car, take your time, and let the kids talk you into a second scoop. That is exactly the kind of warm, easy evening Valley City was made for.

And here is the news I have been waiting to share: Beriswill Farms opens its corn maze and pumpkin patch season this Saturday, September 19, at 2200 Station Road, right here in the Valley. Fall has officially arrived, and it deserves a proper spotlight, so let me tell you about it below.
Beriswill Farms
Beriswill Farms is one of those family-run places that makes me grateful to work in this community. Tucked down Station Road in the heart of the Valley, it is a working farm, not a theme park, and that is exactly what I love about it. The farm market is open year-round with fresh produce, locally raised beef, turkey, chicken, pork, and lamb, plus Ohio-made goods like honey, maple syrup, and popcorn. The people behind the counter treat you like a neighbor, and the quality is the real thing. I send new buyers here all the time when they are settling in, because a stop at a place like this is how you start feeling like you belong.
This fall, the farm opens its seasonal side just in time for the weekend: a big themed corn maze cut into the field, pick-your-own pumpkins, weekend hayrides, a hay climber, a corn box for little ones, and petting animals the kids will talk about for a week. Even the snacks are worth the trip, think pumpkin cookies and caramel corn. It is the kind of wholesome family outing my clients ask about every September, and honestly I am just as excited as the kids.
